3 Day Diet, Not a Long Term Solution.

For big events, like weddings or class reunions, you may want to lose weight instantly by using the 3 Day Diet and although you may get the desired results, don’t expect them to last.

Although experts condemn the diet as just another fad and part of a yo-yo dieting trend, the diet has been around since 1985. It is a restricted plan of eating that is followed for three days, with normal eating resuming for four or five days after which it may be repeated.

Advocates of the plan claim a weight loss of up to 10 pounds while on the diet. Much of the weight lost is due to flushing fluid from your system and not fat loss, however the extreme calorie restrictions may result in some actual weight loss as well. Exercise is not actually required while in this program.

The diet limits the calories you can eat, the food and the quantities allowed per meal.

For breakfast you are allowed to drink coffee or tea with a pack or two of calorie-free sweetener. On day one, you have a 1/2 grapefruit or 1/2 cup juice and a piece of toast and 1 tablespoon peanut butter; day two, 1 egg, 1/2 banana and one piece of toast; day three, 5 saltine crackers, one ounce of cheddar cheese and an apple.

Lunch the first day again includes tea or coffee with calorie-free sweetener along with 1/2 cup tuna and a piece of toast; the second day 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna and 8 saltine crackers; the third day have coffee or tea again with a boiled egg and a piece of toast.

Dinner time, although strict, you have more to look forward to since they include meat, veggies and ice cream. Day one, have 3 ounces of any lean meat, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup carrots, an apple and a cup of regular vanilla ice cream. For the second day, you may eat two beef hot dogs, 1 cup broccoli or cabbage, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 banana and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream. On the final day you eat one cup each of tuna, carrots, cauliflower and melon, along with 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream.

The diet also recommends four cups water or calorie free beverage, which is less than the basic recommended water consumption for good health.

Even if the 3 Day Diet helps you squeeze into your favorite outfit or lose a couple of pounds instantly, it is not a long term or healthy weight loss solution. It is not recommended that you follow this plan for more than three days at a time, and although you will lose some weight, if you’re an overeater, most probably you will just regain all the weight you lost.

This can be used, however, to jumpstart a healthier diet since an instant result can be good motivation. Just remember to begin eating again on day four and eat in moderation.
