Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS also called Stein-Leventhal syndrome is that hormonal deficiency that causes women to have a lot of symptoms. This is an endocrine disorder that affects more or less 5% of women. This happens to all nationalities and races, and PCOS syndrome is a leading cause of infertility and the cause of a widespread hormonal disorder for women who are in the childbearing age.
Symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome are obesity, anovulation that often leads to irregular menstruation, acne and also excessive amounts of androgenic hormones. The symptoms and its severity varies in every woman. Causes are quite unknown except for insulin resistance, diabetes, and obesity whose causes are known and are strongly associated with PCOS syndrome.
Other common symptoms of PCOS are high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, unusual hair growth and hair distribution, and also dandruff. Many of these symptoms can be absent to those women who have PCOS but they will always have irregularities in their menstruation or don’t have it at all. These women don’t ovulate regularly meaning they don’t produce egg cells every month and that leads to monthly menstruation irregularities.
There is no certain cause of this disorder but it’s found out that women who have this kind of disorder have a mother and sister with PCOS but even so it’s not enough to say that it’s hereditary.Often you can find small cysts in the ovaries of those women who have PCOS, a reason for the name polycystic ovarian syndrome. There are comparable number of cysts that grow in women who have not suffered from PCOS. Thus, the cysts are not the considered the major cause of this predicament.Usually the blood sugar control system in women breaks down for those women suffering from PCOS; hence most researchers believe that these are caused by PCOS development. The ovaries of women who suffer from PCOS are known to produce an excess of male hormones called androgen.Too much male hormonal production may be the result of having irregular insulin production.
