10 Things To Know When Building A Shed

Does it seem that the shed that you have spent hours are looking for just doesn’t exist? Now you have been driven to find another way to get one. Well, if you get yourself some “how to build a shed” plans, you can make your own. Even if you have very few carpentry skills, with the right plans, it is quite easy to make your own shed.

There are however 10 things that you should be aware of before you get some plans and start on your shed building project.

How To Build A Shed Plans

1. Where is the position of your shed going to be.  This is going to determine the size of your shed.  You also don’t want it right next to your lovely flower garden.

2. Draw up a sketch of the design that you want your shed to be.  Once you have drawn up your sketch, go to a gardening store and give it to them. They will use your sketch and specifications to draw up their own draft plans.  You will also get some step by step instructions and a list of materials to acquire.

3. You will need to get your hands on the materials that you need.  All of the items required should be bought in one go.  It will save on your precious time going to and from the store.

4. The time has come to begin.  The ground that the foundation is to be laid on should be flat and level.  You will already have chosen the floor type of wood or concrete by now.

5. Next you have to erect the side walls of your shed.  Where your walls are going to be built, you should put your materials.  It’s simpler to make your side walls on the ground first prior to putting into place.

6. The roof is the next part of your project.  Your trusses need to be constructed first.  It is best if you make one to start with and then use it as a template for the others.  This will ensure the roof will be a uniform shape.

7. You will notice that your shed is beginning to look like a shed now.  Next you have to build the wall ends.  Some plans require that you build the end walls in place or maybe build the on the floor and fit them into place as you did with the side walls.  Follow your plans carefully.

8. You are nearing the finish of your shed project.  You will have to finish your shed off with the trim to make it look professional.

9. There are two final steps to finish your shed.  The wood needs to be treated  or it won’t last very long.  You could use a varnish or a wood stain.  The last job to complete your shed is applying the shingles to the roof.

10. Hurrah.  Sit back, have a beer or a glass of wine and celebrate your achievement.
