An obvious downside when it comes to strawberries, is the fact that they don’t last long once they’ve matured and are picked up. It is truly a shame how fast they start to rot. However, when it comes to nutritional value, raw strawberries have the benefit of being Cholesterol and salt-free as well as having nearly no fat whatsoever. What they do have high quantities of, is minerals such as Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Phosphorus and Manganese, as well as vitamin C and flavonoids, and last but not least, fiber. The largest portion of the calories they do contain is their natural sugars but these are the good kind.
Frozen strawberries, icing on the cake
From a nutritional point of view, there is no difference between the frozen strawberries and the fresh raw ones. The only difference is that being frozen, they lose in flavor. When the berries are still whole and frozen but have sugar added the calorie count jumps from about 50 calories per serving to a whopping 200 calories per serving. There is no risk of losing your vitamin C dose if you eat them this way, the only risk is to your weight. Furthermore, if sugar is added to sliced strawberries, the calorie count will whoosh to a startling 250 per 100 grams. 100 grams of strawberries canned in syrup will count 235 calories more or less. Whether sugared or syrup-canned, strawberries will continue to have the same nutritional values as the fresh ones, but they will be harder to digest.
Strawberries in juice:
Fixing a juice out of strawberries mixed with bananas and oranges will offer your senses a great flavor experience. This juice will provide the same nutritional value found in fresh strawberries plus added Potassium from the bananas and added Vitamin C from the oranges. The sugar content is still pretty high and the calories are about 120 for an average serving size. As for heavily processed canned fruit juices, the sugar content is considerably higher and the nutritional values much lower than the freshly squeezed fruit juice.
